Growing up with ADHD

When I was around 6-10 I never really showed any signs of ADHD except having a really bad hyperfixation to bugs. I didn’t have any real close friends so I never got invited to people’s houses. I made a few friends who also liked bugs but everyone found us weird. I used to be loud and get yelled at during class for being too loud which used to make me upset cause I didn’t know I was being loud.

In 7th grade, I got diagnosed with ADHD and by 8th grade, I went to a psychiatrist who got me onto meds.

I was scared, I felt like I was wrong to be myself and have to take meds just to make me seem “Normal.” after I started taking them I noticed I was able to focus more on my work and pay attention without distracting myself so I could get through the school day. The voices and music in my head were quiet and I felt better mentally. I’m glad I got on meds because I am doing much better in school and have good grades instead of before, I was failing.
